The Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation, (formerly, the Rural Electrification Authority ) a state corporation established under the Energy Act, 2019, is mandated to enhance provision of electricity in the rural areas of the country as well as develop, manage and promote the use of renewable energy in Kenya. Through its mandate, the Corporation seeks to improve the socio-economic well-being of Kenyans living in rural areas as well as develop cheap alternatives to sources of energy through the promotion of renewable energy. Since commencing operations in the 2008/09 financial year, the Corporation has endeavored to realize this objective and through its efforts, 70% of all the public facilities have been electrified. Moving forward, the Corporation will put more focus on renewable energy to provide electricity to areas far away from the national grid network. CONSTRUCTION DEPARTMENT

1. PRINCIPAL ENGINEER (CONSTRUCTION), GRADE REREC 4 - 1 POST (ON PERMANENT AND PENSIONABLE TERMS OF SERVICE)

Duties and responsibilities will entail assisting in:-

  1. Identifying the route for way-leaves acquisition for all REREC projects.
  2. Compiling and documenting projects technical reports including Design, Survey, Cartography and Wayleave; and
  3. Recommending location of proposed distribution networks including primary and secondary feeding substations by preparing description of project works, material schedules and cost estimates;
  4. Undertaking designs for grid extension projects as per the acceptable standards;
  5. Implementing policies and programs on power system design;

OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT

1. SENIOR WOOD SCIENTIST, GRADE REREC 5 – 1 POST (ON PERMANENT AND PENSIONABLE TERMS OF SERVICE)

(a) Job specification

Duties and Responsibilities at this level will entail:-

  1. Distribute test reports as may be necessary.
  2. Maintain test results as may be necessary; and
  3. Avail correct test results for the tests conducted;
  4. Study of factors degrading wood and determine the methods of treatment;
  5. Maintain samples collected as may be required to yield correct test results and test history;
  6. Carry out quality tests of wood poles being delivered to the corporation to ensure conformity to standards;
  7. Formulating, updating and maintaining technical specifications for poles for use in the electricity distribution function;
  8. Apply test processes as required during testing of various materials;
  9. Carry out chemical analysis of wood, quantitative chemical wood analysis,  and wood preservation;
  10. Collect samples for the relevant wood tests;
  11. Advise on wood samples preservation techniques that should be applicable in the wood testing laboratories;
  12. Advise of wood preservation technologies that should be applicable from time to time;
  13. Advise and review the testing equipment’s necessary for wood testing;
  14. Advise on establishment of an appropriate Wood Laboratory for the corporation;
  15. Formulate, maintain and update procedures to be consistent with current trends in timber preservation and testing;

  4. Obtaining and documenting feedback from various consumers on solar, wind, small hydro and tidal waves energies;
